Set in the Savoie French Alps, the purpose-built resort of La Plagne boasts the title for the largest single ski resort in Europe, with its 200 kilometres of piste, 142 ski lifts, funicular, cable cars, gondolas, chairlifts and drags. Set in the valley of Tarentaise, La Plagne and the neighbouring resort of Les Arcs make up the Paradiski Ski Area. La Plagne (1970) lies at an altitude between 3250 metres, (Glacier de la Chiaupe), and 1250 metres, (Montchavin village). There is also a wide range of village styles, from the traditional alpine town of La Plagne 1800 to the contemporary Aime La Plagne. Plagne Centre was founded in 1961 and features a good choice of apartments, hotels, restaurants, shops and a cinema. Children are well catered for with ski schools, kindergarten, nursery slopes and evening entertainment. Neighbouring resorts of Les Arcs, Val d'Isere, Tignes and the Three Valleys are also within reach. Non-skiers can enjoy the ice rink, outdoor pool and bowling.
