Set beside a lake, the charming town of Zell am See features a pretty old centre. The towns of Zell am See and neighbouring Kaprun make up the Europa Sport Ski Region. The ski area offers a wide variety of challenging terrain best suited to beginners and intermediates.

Take the gondola or ski bus up the mountain to Schuttdorf where there's a series of gondolas to the top. Snowboarders will enjoy the terrain parks on the Kitzsteinhorn and the half pipe at Schmittenhohe. Swish down the pretty tree-lined slopes and enjoy lunch in the warm and welcoming mountain restaurants.

Other winter sports include curling, tobogganing, sleigh rides, ice-skating, winter walks, paragliding, hand gliding, and hot air balloon rides. While away the late afternoons wandering through the town's winding streets, which are lined with shops, supermarkets, craft shops, cafes and restaurants or take an excursion to Salzburg or Kitzbuhel.
