Patmos Holidays
Places in Patmos: Chora
Patmos is the most northerly of the 12 Dodecanese islands. Measuring only 16 miles in length, it is also one of the smallest inhabited Greek islands. Holidays in Patmos offer a beautifully diverse landscape, with rocky-hilltops, flat plains, lush pine forests, whitewashed villages, small coves and crystal-clear waters. One of the most popular beaches is Kambos, which is accompanied by a good selection of amenities. Quieter coastal areas include: Lambi beach, Vaghia and Aghios Nikoloas Bay.
The island also has an important religious past; Patmos is where Saint John the Divine had the Revelation and wrote the Apocalypse. One of the most visited attractions is the imposing stone Monastery of Saint John, founded in 1088, which presides over the port. Many visitors flock to see its majestic beauty and enjoy the panoramic views from the hilltop. Other religious sites include the Ecclesiastical Museum and the Grotto of the Apocalypse.
Despite Patmos' growing popularity as a holiday destination, the island has managed to retain its traditional Greek charm. Visitors arrive on the island via Skala, the island's harbour. Skala is a bustling town of whitewashed houses and plenty of shops, hotels, cafes and restaurants. The island's evening entertainment offers something for everyone, from relaxed bars with live music and local dancing to a lively all-night clubbing scene.
