S'Algar
The small purpose-built resort of S'Algar is situated on the southeast corner of Menorca, six miles from the island's capital, Mahon city and airport. The secluded resort features a man-made beach, which, though quite small and narrow, is perfect for families. It is also complete with sunbeds and umbrellas. The longer natural beach of Cala Alcaufar is a 15-minute stroll away.
S'Algar is renowned for its abundance of sports facilities, including scuba diving, jet skiing, windsurfing, and water skiing. Further sports include bowling, tennis, mini-golf, football, and horse riding. Accommodation in S'Algar consists of a couple of hotels, self-catering apartments, and privately owned villas. Reflecting this self-catering theme is a couple of small supermarkets. S'Algar also features souvenir shops and a fine choice of restaurants serving traditional Spanish dishes.
Those seeking a wider selection of shops and restaurants can head to the nearby Sant Lluis or Mahon. The capital, Mahon is renowned for its excellent shopping and bustling harbour. Nightlife in S'Algar is relatively low-key and is comprised of a few bars and a disco. Hotels also host a variety of children's entertainment and shows. Hiring a car is recommended to explore the surrounding towns, villages and rugged countryside.
