Illetas
Often compared to Monte Carlo, the small stylish resort of Illetas is renown for its exclusivity and high prices. The resort is situated just six miles from Palma and is considered the 'cultural' alternative to the more hectic neighbouring town of Magaluf. Because of its close links to Palma, Illetas proves a popular base for those wanting to explore the history and culture of the island's capital; regular buses run to Palma.
Nestled on the rugged southwest coast, Illetas features a small sandy beach with crystal-clear waters. The beach gets very busy in the summer months, but this won't matter if you're lucky enough to book a hotel with its own private stretch of sand. In the evenings visitors can stroll along the seafront as the sunsets over the bay. Illetas offers a collection of bars and restaurants - many with panoramic views of the coastline. Those seeking big-name DJs and late-night dancing can travel to the nearby town of Magaluf - renown for its pulsating bars and clubs.
If you've chosen to hire a car, the pretty coastal road heading northbound up through the mountains is highly recommended for its panoramic scenery. Other popular daytrips include: shopping in Palma, visiting Puerto Portal's exclusive marina, and a fun day out at Marineland with its performing dolphins and parrot shows. The airport is just a 15-20-minute drive away.
