El Arenal
Once a small fishing village, El Arenal has established itself as a lively beach resort particularly popular with partygoers. As one of the first holiday resorts to pop up on the island, El Arenal offers a dizzying selection of restaurants, British pubs, karaoke bars and nightclubs with big-name DJs. The resort is set on the south coast of Majorca, at the far end of Playa de Palma's three-mile stretch of beach.
The popular golden sandy beach of El Arenal is lined with beach huts offering shower and toilet facilities as well as a selection of drinks and snacks. A pedestrian promenade, packed with shops, bars and restaurants, connects the resorts of C'an Pastilla, Playa de Palma and Al Arenal, allowing visitors to stroll freely between all three. Alternatively, those looking for a more prompt form of transport can hop on the mini train, which runs the length of the promenade. Arenal also offers a wealth of recreational activities, such as water sports, hiking and biking trails, and tennis.
The lively resort draws the 18-30s party crowd, especially Germans, during the summer months. Those eager to explore further a field can take a day-trip to the historic city of Palma, the cosmopolitan capital of the island, or enjoy a day at Aqualand de Arenal, the island' biggest water park. Situated six miles from Palma, El Arenal is just a 15-minute drive from the airport.
