Cala Mayor
Travelling three miles, (five kilometres) west along the coast from Palma, Cala Mayor is the first resort you'll reach. Sandwiched between the neighbouring resort of Illetas and the island's capital, Cala Mayor is the official summer residence of the Spanish Royal Family. Holidays in Cala Mayor are a hit with both locals and tourists who flock to the fine sandy beach and clear waters.
Tourists can bask on the 200-metre-long white-sand beach, sip cocktails at the beach bar, or take scenic boat trips around the bay. Mallorca's most important collection of art is displayed in Cala Mayor's Joan Miro Museum. In the 80's Cala Mayor and its neighbouring Sant Agusti were two of the island's earliest resorts, and are now almost considered suburbs of Palma.
Cala Mayor is an ideal location from which to explore the island's cosmopolitan capital. The number 3 bus takes tourist directly into the centre of Palma. In the evenings, visitors to Cala Mayor can take a short taxi ride to Palma to enjoy drinks in the traditional flamenco bars and dance into the early hours at the chic clubs.
