Laganas Holidays
Set on the south coast of Zante, Lagana holds the title for the largest resort on the island. Holidays in Lagana are particularly popular with the 18-30s crowd for its pulsating nightlife. The resort also boasts one of the longest beaches on the Mediterranean; the fine golden-sand beach stretches five miles, (nine kilometres) along the coast and is lapped by azure waters. Families flock to the beach to enjoy its gently shelving sands and calm seas.
Protected turtles
The beach is a haven for sun-worshippers and turtles alike - the beach is a nesting ground for more than 1000 loggerhead turtles. The turtles are fiercely protected, and as a result motorised water sports have been banned from the beach, but visitors can still hire pedaloes and canoes. Numerous hotels and apartments line the beach, offering quieter accommodation than that on the main street. The hectic main strip boasts more than 100 bars and a dizzying choice of restaurants.
Lagana nightlife
Dining in Lagana offers Greek, Italian, Chinese, Indian and British dishes. Lively bars, discos and clubs stay open until the early hours and feature big-name DJs, dance music, hip-hop, and R&B. The resort also offers a good selection of shops selling souvenirs, local handicrafts, jewellery, and leather goods. Holidays in Lagana include popular excursions, such as boat cruises to the blue caves and spectacular shipwreck, and daytrips to the island's capital. Zakynthos Town is five miles, (eight kilometres) away, with its Byzantine Museum, pretty churches, lively squares and narrow streets.
