The volcanic island of Lanzarote is the perfect year round location to escape from the cold, with its temperatures of 80 degrees or more. Many areas of Lanzarote have developed terrain that is out of this world which is why this was the set of many scenes in Planet of The Apes. The humidity of the island has kept the volcanic landscape since the eruptions of the 18th and 19th Centuries. In contrast the resorts of Lanzarote offer beautiful white beaches.
Families come back year after year to the charming resorts Lanzarote has to offer. Children and couples flock to the variety of beaches during the day, whether it's the golden shores of the north or the black sands of the south. There is a flag system in place so tourists know when it is safe to swim in the clear blue waters of the Atlantic Ocean. Like many of the Canary Islands, the beaches of Lanzarote host a variety of water sports for all to enjoy or take a trip to one of the many sights to be seen, a helitour is a must as is the glass bottom boats where you can capture the marine life of the island.
Nightlife and shopping are the favourite past times in Lanzarote. Although not as lively as Tenerife, Lanzarote has something to suit all, from lively Irish bars to the more traditional taverna. For a more traditional experience take a trip to Arrecife where you can enjoy the company of the friendly locals or cast your eye over the variety of items for sale at the Sunday Market in the Capital of Teguise. You can choose from jewellery, African woodcarvings, hand-made crafts and more or sample some of the local dishes and soak up the atmosphere to this fascinating destination.
