From its roots as a sleepy fishing village, Corralejo has grown into Fuerteventura's largest resort. Surprisingly, the resort manages to maintain its traditional charm - its original fishing harbour remaining at its heart. Located two miles, (three kilometres) from Corralejo, is the glorious white-sand beach of Playa Grande. It stretches a whopping seven miles, (11 kilometres) along the coast and has been declared a protected nature reserve. It is popular with sunbathers, swimmers, and water sports-enthusiasts, especially keen windsurfers due to the coastal breeze. Other activities in the area include mountain biking and hiking amongst the sand dunes or island hopping over to Lanzarote.
